Independence Day is one of the most admired holidays for all Indians and has been celebrated on August 15th every year since 1947, when the that-time Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru (the first to hold the post) hoisted the Indian national flag over the Lahori Gate of the Red Fort in Delhi.
