Every year on October 12, the Spanish nation and all those who associate themselves with Spain and Spanish culture celebrate the National Day of Spain. It commemorates the discovery of the American continent by Christopher Columbus for Spain on the same day in 1492. This event had an immense impact on the development of the country and the world in general. Quite an occasion!
However, despite its mostly military image (with troop parades and an air show attended by the royal family itself), the holiday is mostly celebrated in a family environment and is highly anticipated in Spain every year.
