HSI is a major index of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. It’s a capitalization-weighted index of the stocks of 34 largest Chinese companies, makes up two thirds of total turnover of the exchange (65%) in terms of capitalization and accurately reflects the state of the Chinese stock market. The index includes: Bank of China, Bank of Asia, Bankcomm, BOC Hong Kong, Cathay Pac Air, CCB, CHALCO, Cheung Kong, China Life, China Mer Hldgs, China Mobile, China Overseas, China Res Power, China Resources, China Shenhua, China Unicom, CITIC Pacific, CLP Hldgs, CNOOC, COSCO Pacific, Esprit Hldgs, Hang Lung Prop, Hang Seng Bank, Henderson Land, Hengan INTL, HK & China Gas, HKEx, HSBC Hldgs, Hutchison, ICBC, Li & Fung, MTR Corporation, New World Dev, PetroChina, Ping An, Power Assets, SHK Prop, Sino Land, Sinopec Corp, Swire Pacific, Tencent, Wharf Holdings. The index includes the company’s current share price, last day’s closing price, number of shares listed on the exchange, free float, capitalization. This index is very popular on the exchange due to its amenability to speculation which allows to make money even with small initial investments. It’s especially interesting to those who prefer working with large volumes over short terms.
